Currently involved in over $12 billion of development projects throughout the United States and Europe, our clients include the industry’s most highly-regarded developers, real estate investment funds, insurance companies, pension funds, banks, sports teams, hotel owner / operators, commercial / industrial tenants, as well as civic, cultural and educational organizations. The scale of our projects range between $10 million and $2 billion in hard construction cost.
SPD is an affiliate of Sterling Equities, a 50-year-old real estate owner/manager and developer based in New York. Its ownership group also owns and operates the New York Mets Baseball Team as well as SportsNet New York, a regional sports network.

JEFF WILPON

In addition to being a Partner in SPD, Jeff Wilpon serves as Executive Vice President of Sterling Equities. He has a 28-year history of actively managing and supervising sports facility construction. His most relevant construction and development projects include responsibility for the development, planning, design and construction of Citi Field, an $800 million ballpark, which was completed on schedule and under budget. Mr. Wilpon is the Chief Operating Officer of the New York Mets and the Brooklyn Cyclones. His development responsibilities in Brooklyn included working in partnership with the City of New York to oversee the planning, design and construction of MCU Park. Other sports-related projects that he has been responsible for include the construction and/or renovation of facilities for the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie, FL , the Dominican Republic, and Kingsport, TN. Jeff has extensive experience in overseeing major school, entertainment and tenant installations as well as the transactional aspects of such projects. Recent development and construction projects that he has been responsible for include 383 Madison Avenue, a 1.2-million-square-foot high-rise office tower in Midtown Manhattan, and the award-winning historic restoration of Radio City Music Hall.

RICHARD BROWNE

Richard Browne has enjoyed equally successful careers as a builder, commercial building owner and project consultant. Since his real estate and construction career began in 1986, Mr. Browne has been involved in the coordination and supervision of over $5 billion worth of commercial, residential and sports-related projects. From 2005 until its final completion in 2010, Richard (through his previous firm, Rector Management Corp.) served as Owner’s Representative to Queens Ballpark Company, L.L.C., which spearheaded the development and construction of Citi Field. This $800 million ballpark, which was completed on schedule and under budget, is regarded as one of the premier sports and entertainment facilities in the country. Earlier in his career, Mr. Browne was the managing general partner of 40 Rector Street, a 600,000-square-foot commercial office building located in Downtown Manhattan. Major tenants in the building included The City of New York, Xerox, AXA Equitable Life, NYU Medical Center and The American Stock Exchange. Mr. Browne was responsible for all aspects of leasing, management, construction and operation of the property. The building, which had been owned by Mr. Browne and his family since 1969, was sold to an outside investor in January of 2001. He has been a member of the Building Owners and Managers Association, The Long Island Board of Realtors, The Real Estate Board of New York and the Downtown Owners Committee.
